Dr. Macdonald
joined Surgical Associates of Columbus in 1995. He received his
undergraduate degree from Oregon State College and then attended the University
of Oregon Medical School where he earned his MD in 1961. After completing
a rotating internship at Highland-Alameda County Hospital in Oakland,
California, Dr. Macdonald did his general surgery residency at William Beaumont
General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. As an active duty Army officer, Dr.
Macdonald held the Chief of Surgery position at various military hospitals
during his career. He served as the Director of the General Surgery
Residency Program at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, Washington for several
years. Dr. Macdonald came to the Columbus area in 1980 when he was
appointed the Chief of the Department of Surgery at Martin Army Hospital on Fort
Benning. After serving in that capacity for ten years, Dr. Macdonald
retired from active duty and entered private practice as the Chief of Surgery
and the Director of Trauma Services for The Medical Center (a position he still
fills). Dr Macdonald was our sixth surgeon when he joined our practice in
1995.
Dr. Macdonald is
certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American
College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Association of Military
Surgeons as well as the Georgia Committee on Trauma of the American
College of Surgeons. He is certified by the American College of Surgeons
as both a provider and an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support. He
is on the medical staff of The Medical Center, St. Francis and Doctor's
Hospital.
