Surgical Associates of Columbus, PC (SAC) was founded in 1965 by Dr. Franklin J. Star, M.D., F.A.C.S. who retired in 2002. SAC was incorporated in 1971 and added a second surgeon in 1972. Under Dr. Star's direction and since, the practice has been flourishing for over four decades.
Our surgeons are all licensed in the state of Georgia. Each of our surgeons are fully trained and credentialed in all areas of general surgery. In addition, most have areas of special interest.
Each of our surgeons are board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (new surgeons recently out of training are board eligible).
All of our surgeons are accepting new patients, including Medicare and Medicaid patients. Each performs procedures at all the area acute care hospitals including The Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital and Doctor's Hospital.
Surgical Associates was established on the principal of caring for patients first, and in an ever increasingly difficult time to receive proper medical care, we strive to ensure that this remains our focus.
Surgical Associates has also been involved with teaching since it's inception. Each surgeon in our practice is involved in medical education. We provide surgical instruction for physicians in the Family Practice Residency at The Medical Center. Our surgeons serve as surgical preceptors for Physician Assistant Students from Emory University and The Medical College of Georgia. Surgical residents from Morehouse College rotate with us as part of their general surgery residency training.
