What to expect during your visit to Surgical Associates of Columbus, PC
At your first office visit, you'll spend a few moments with our patient representative to review our financial policy and sign a release of information form allowing us to file your insurance claim for you Please be prepared to furnish your insurance information.

Generally, we see patients in order of arrival, adhering as closely as possible to the appointment schedule. Emergencies and seriously ill patients who require immediate medical attention will receive priority.

The practice of surgery, by its nature, involves providing urgent and emergent care. While we make every effort to avoid cancellations and delays, it's impossible to always predict when your surgeon may be called away for an emergency. When this happens, we will work with you to arrange for either another surgeon in the practice who is available to see you, or rescheduling of your appointment.

We encourage appropriate family participation throughout the course of your care but ask that you limit guests accompanying you to the office, since seating is limited. We do require that children and young adults under eighteen be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

For first time visits or after an extended period since your last visit, we will ask you to complete a medical history questionnaire. This questionnaire covers your medical conditions, past surgical history, current medications and allergies. If you take multiple medications or are not sure of the doses, bringing your medication vials/bottles to the office can be very helpful.

As part of our involvement with surgical education, from time to time we have resident physicians or physician assistant students working with our surgeons in the office. They are strictly supervised by the surgeon and in every case each patient is seen by the surgeon.

Often, patients are referred to us for minor surgical procedures. These can sometimes be done in our office in the minor procedure room. Generally, the initial visit is an evaluation of the problem by the surgeon at which time they make recommendations. If a minor surgery is decided on, then a second visit is scheduled to have the procedure performed. Only emergency procedures such as control of bleeding or drainage of infection will be done during the initial evaluation. This policy is necessary due to the need with many health plans to precertify any surgical procedures and the fact that our minor procedure room is frequently booked up on the day of the initial evaluation.
